The Comprehensive Plan is a 10-year vision for the Village. This vision will be a direct reflection of the community’s aspirations, ensuring that the Village’s growth and development align with the values of its residents.

Community Conversations Open House
Join Village Staff and The Lakota Group Team for a fun, interactive open house event framed around Community Conversations. We’ll have facilitated discussions at a series of different tables dedicated to topics such as Downtown McFarland, Visions for the East Side, Business Development, Housing in McFarland, and more. During the two-hour event you can join in multiple conversations, take part in planning activities, and make your voice heard as we gather input for the new Comprehensive Plan.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is a village's long-term vision for the future. It's a guiding document that helps elected officials, village staff, and community members make informed decisions about how McFarland grows, changes, and stays true to what makes it a great place to live, work, and visit.
The plan covers the big picture: housing, transportation, economic development, parks, and land use. It sets goals and policies to help the village get where it wants to go. It's not a set of hard rules, but rather a shared agreement about what McFarland values and where it's headed.
Like a compass, this document will point McFarland in the right direction, guided by the voice of its residents and stakeholders.
How does the Comprehensive Plan fit into McFarland’s Existing Planning Framework?
A comprehensive plan is different from a strategic plan or annual budget, which are two additional planning tools used by the Village. A budget focuses on the annual allocation of resources for the year ahead. A strategic plan defines organizational priorities and operations for the next three to five years. A comprehensive plan guides future growth and development for the next 10 or more years by setting a clear vision for the Village.
